Tips for those who received a SCTPVA ticket
Make sure you keep a copy of the ticket
Often the police will improperly write a ticket, or put down an incorrect section of law. Many times I can get a ticket dismissed or reduced based on the way the officer wrote out the ticket.
Let your attorney enter a plea of not guilty for you
If you are going to retain me as your attorney, there is no need for you to even enter a plea as I will enter a plea of not guilty on your behalf.
Do not plead guilty
Aside from the fact that even when factoring the legal fee, you will still usually end up paying a lot more than had you retained an attorney to get the ticket(s) reduced. Once you are convicted of a speeding ticket or moving violation, The Suffolk County TPVA will see it and hold it against when conferencing future tickets.
Delaying does not work
Delaying the case is a technique often used at the Traffic Violations Bureaus throughout the Five Burroughs. At the Traffic Violations Bureaus (TVBs), traffic ticket cases are scheduled for trial. Generally if the officer appears, the motorist will lose the case, so often the attorneys that handle cases at the various Traffic Violations Bureaus throughout the city will adjourn a case if they see the officer present on the court date. Another reason to delay is if you are going to be convicted of a ticket with points, delaying the case will keep the points off your license longer. This reasoning does not apply however to the Suffolk County TPVA, primarily because I am able to get the vast majority of cases reduced to no points.
Paying Fines
The court does not accept personal checks. If you mail a money order, make sure you keep a copy. Best to pay in person and get a receipt in your hand or online at TPVAPayments.com
